Spooky and Swag, Kings of the Crossroad

(Note: We’ve nicknamed some of our neighbors “Spooky” and “Swag” because of reasons, but it helps this story-poem make sense.)

“schreeech-crash!”

I jump up to the window

a black truck and grey mini van already

stopped with headlights intertwined

clogging our corner

and so quickly

Spooky and Swag are in the mix

with an abundance of excited and exaggerated arm motions

directing the suddenly several cars surrounding the scene

and circling the crashed cars with purpose

determining the optimal route for disentanglement

waving the cars to a peaceful parking spot

along the wayside

With that accomplished

and supremely satisfied in their ruling, Spooky and Swag

return to their rightful porch chair thrones

another successful day’s work

as

Crossroad Kings
