ode to my wedding ring

left hand

I haven’t worn you

in 4 years,

not since when mixed with

grad school stress

and industrial strength disinfectant spray

you just aggravated eczema

I haven’t seen you

for half that time

not since we returned you to your cardboard

box, in the back of our dresser drawer

when you

stopped fitting and I stopped pretending

that I would wear you again

but last week

I missed how you

wrapped around my finger

an instant fidget, a tangible reminder

of husband, a swift and

super hug when

alone time loomed large

Today’s prompt was to write a love letter to an inanimate object.
