Poem 11 for 2015

today's birthday mail

today’s birthday mail

Yeshua for your birthday

You were celebrating your 18th birthday
with a trip in Israel, 10 years ago this month
Three weeks with no contact; after daily
emails was lonely

In church, Joy said something and something, laughing
At me counting days; she suspected us, I guess
Since I soaked up everything she knew from that
email to your mom

And we didn’t make it official for months
After that, and we didn’t see eachother
for weeks. I was in denial, but really
we should have known then

Today’s prompt was to write a Sapphics poem, which had a complicated meter (read about it here). Mostly though, I attempted to follow the number of syllables per line (11-11-11-5). You can read Erin’s poems here.
